My fanfiction and Meta posts are open to everyone, as are my day-to-day ramblings. My original fiction is now locked, except for the first chapter/fic/character piece in each of my original universes. My reasons for doing this can be found HERE and HERE

So I finally got around to buying The Eagle on DVD a couple of weeks ago; then the Soul Sib and I watched it and without prompting he started giggling over how gay it was. I am so proud of him. All those years of forcing Alexander/Hephaistion on him have finally paid off. *Proud tears*

In terms of links, misspamela sums up how gay the film is very well. I still heartily suggest people buy the DVD and watch it for fun.

In another rec, I have a deep and abiding love for the BBC's Horrible Histories, which are technically aimed at kids, but how can you not love it when it has a Lady Gaga mock-up song of Cleopatra, a Spartan High School Musical and, of course, my absolute favourite a sketch, poking fun at Alexander the Great. I definitely don't have visions of Alexander and Hephaistion having the exact same conversation as that in the last link. XD

Anyone have anything that's making them smile at the moment? Link it!

Oops. This post is meant to be fic. On account of, you know, it being post 250. Instead, let's have a fic comment party! Yay! Because of course Cobalt can't get her arse in gear to actually write full length fics at the moment.

So, prompt away. Fic away, even! See a prompt and like it - write a response to it! (And I faithfully promise I'll write one too.) Give me a pairing, a scenario, anything you like! Oh, and I apologise for those who left prompts for longer fics. They will be done eventually, I hope. I just cannot find the time and energy to write long!fic at the moment. I'm so sorry.

In other news I am finally caught up on this year's series of Doctor Who - if anyone in the flist is familiar with it, let me know what you thought of it, because thinky thoughts, I very much have them and would like to discuss. I also took a very brief dip into Who fandom; saw there appeared to be far too many ship wars for my liking (and female character bashing) and promptly wandered away, much saddened.

And Merlin! Merlin is back! But last week's episode made me go D: D: D:, and not in a good way.

It's that time again! Coming up to the 250th LJ post which means, in time-honoured tradition (and by 'time-honoured' I mean 'has happened exactly once before') the floor is open to suggestions for a 250th LJ fic.

Last time we had apocalyptic zombie fighting Sinn and Mars (no sequels there, I'm afraid), so what will it be this time?

No rules. Basically I'm just shallow and will take the suggested idea that appeals the most to me and turn it into fic. Other donated plot bunnies may be turned into drabbles at a later date.

So, thoughts?

It's also time for me to make a grovelling apology about not responding to comments, either. I want to, I mean to, I plan to and then life goes 'BOO' and I have no free time. I promise I do read every one though, and generally do a little happy clap of love over them.

I... just had a mental image of Sinn asleep with a post-it note taped to his forehead, with the words Marry Me written on it in Mars's handwriting.

Sometimes my brain does odd things all by itself.

Random post is random:

Has anyone else read Martha Wells' The Death of the Necromancer? I started to read it a little dubiously (unsure if the writing style would appeal) and just...guh. This is the kind of book I dream about one day writing. The plot, the characters, the magic, the plot, the double-crossing, the plot, the detail and description... did I mention the plot?

I...may have gone out and just invested a reasonable amount of money in all of her books. Oops.

My computer appears to be dying. Dyiiiiing! And I have nothing to back anything up on because my external hard drive has chosen THIS MOMENT to abandon its mortal life and move on to a better place. So, Flist, if anyone has run across something similar (your screen starts shimmering really badly as though it's suffering with heat haze and jelly legs) let me know, and tell me what fixed it.

If it helps, I'm about 85% sure it's not the monitor, because I swapped monitors and it was STILL doing it.

*Headdesk* This is one of those FML moments, isn't it?

On the whole I'm not a massive gamer. I have to have an immersive plot and usually it has to be 'AU' gaming at it's best to distract me from RL (Assassin's Creed II/Brotherhood, for example, or the early Tomb Raiders).

That said:

Ffs, I have a life outside of the x-box, Bioware. ;_;

Secondly, and most importantly, may I wish you and your families an absolutely fantastic Christmas and a truly wonderful New Year. I hope you get everything you want. :)

BBC's 'Ancient Worlds' you lied to me. Last night I settled down for what promised to be an hour long programme on Alexander the Great and within twenty minutes you had gone through his entire history (badly, I might add) and moved on to his successors. His successors are not him. This is easily recognisable by the fact that the period after Alexander's death is known as the 'Successor Wars'. Why do a programme entitled 'Alexander the Great' and then barely look at him? Bad form, BBC. I got all excited for nothing.

And please stop claiming he was a religious megalomaniac. He wasn't. That is some seriously old school thinking and misinterpretation going on there.

In other news, I caved and brought £50 worth of Alexander books. Reviews to no doubt follow shortly. (One appears to be open prose on the Alexander/Hephaistion relationship. This book is a gamble and yet somehow I am still willing to pay £17 for it... damn you, obsession.)

Oh Alexander you give me joy.
