My fanfiction and Meta posts are open to everyone, as are my day-to-day ramblings. My original fiction is now locked, except for the first chapter/fic/character piece in each of my original universes. My reasons for doing this can be found HERE and HERE

Uh, brief Sinn/Mars au drabble, because I've failed to get anything done this week. *Hangs head in shame*

Title: It's All Just Science, Baby
Rating: PG
Notes: Written for the AU prompt meme. The request was Sinn/Mars - Rockstars from [info]macabreromansu.
Summary: There are days when the show's electric...

I apologise for not getting back to any of the previous comments regarding the potential Sinn/Mars Highwayman!AU. I've had a dreadful couple of weeks and sadly LJ became a bit of a low-down item on my priority list. That said, I'm back now (yay!) and I've succumbed to temptation so the new AU's being written. I'm hoping to have it posted before I head off to Istanbul on the 31st January.

In the meantime, have a Sinn/Mars drabble (police!AU) - and this time I promise to reply to comments. :)

Title: It Goes Like This (The Fourth, The Fifth)
Rating: PG
Warnings/Notes: Sinn/Mars AU, mention of OC death, angst, fluff. (Title from Rufus Wainwright's Hallelujah.)
Summary: It's late, and Mars has not been having a good day. Surprisingly, Sinn helps.

Happy New Year everyone! Let's hope 2010 is even more productive for all of us and a cracking year to boot.

Now to important stuffs.

Would anyone like an Alexander book? I bought The Lost Chronicles of Alexander the Great on the mild off-chance it would be interesting and, for me, it wasn't. That said, I am fully aware that one man's drink is another man's poison so if anyone wants this, do sing out. I don't want any money for it, and I'm quite happy to pay P&P to wherever. I'll get satisfaction out of knowing it's gone to someone who wants it.

In other news I recently discovered a marvellous series of books written by Russell Thorndike. They concern the adventures of a village vicar who is a mild-mannered parson by day and a notorious highwayman-cum-pirate by night. It's a brilliant, brilliant series that got even better when I realised the main character was called 'Syn' and he had pale skin, black hair and a violent temperament.

I'm debating at least one Sinn/Mars rip-off from this, with Sinn as the notorious highwayman and Mars as the long-suffering local squire trying to catch him. And there is lots of unresolved UST between highwayman!Sinn and rifleman!Mars. Then again, there's already ZombieUniverse!Sinn and Mars, Howarts!Sinn and Mars and PoliceAU!Sinn and Mars. When do you reach the point where you say "No more AU's?" *Ponders*

Thoughts would be muchly appreciated on this.

A brief Christmas Sinn/Mars drabble for you all. :) I'll catch up with comments after Christmas, I promise!

Title: 'Tis the Season
Rating: PG
Pairings: Sinn/Mars
Summary: AU Sinn/Mars. Christmas Eve and Mars is cold and bored standing outside Number 10.

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas. May you get everything you want!

This post is to remind me, for when my SAD kicks in, why sometimes life can be good. :)

Random things that amused me yesterday:

1) Walking down the Strand, I was just getting to the traffic lights when I spotted a bloke coming the other way. He was dressed smartly in a suit; had his hair gelled; nice glasses; grinning like a madman and he had another guy slung over his shoulder. No, seriously. There was a lot of girly manly screaming from slung-over-shoulder-guy (also in suit) and a lot of "Put me down!" and helpless laughter. It was one of those moments of 'No, I really can't believe what I'm seeing'. It was also epically awesome that guy one didn't put guy two down, he just carried him off down the Strand. The best bit? Neither of them were drunk. XD They were blatantly boyfriends. Office love FTW!

2) The Soul Sib always amuses me in the best possible ways, bless him. He's working at Sotherby's (a famous auction house) at the moment (as well as teaching kids Ancient History part-time) and he texted to let me know he'd just handled a piece of Herodotus written on papyrus from the 1st Century AD. Awesomeness. Then we had a conversation where I whined about paying tuition fees and he told me that Caesar did as well, so clearly great minds thought alike, and since Caesar went on to sort of rule the known world, when I'd conquered everywhere, could he have Italy? I may have said yes.

His boss also has a pet tortoise. Its name? Herodotortoise. Awesome.

3) I got sick of trying to sort all my fics in my LJ memories, so now I have a FIC LIST instead. It's got all my fanfiction, original fiction and a small amount of meta. So if you can't be bothered to flick through my journal to find something, go there. (It's in a sticky post at the top of the journal.)

How's everyone doing at the moment? Enjoying life?

Alright. Is it bad that I've had this journal nearly five years and I've only made two hundred posts in it (and most of those are fic)? Huh. Anyway, in honour of the 199th post, have thirty random facts about the different characters and 'verses I've written over the (five OMG) years:

Things You Never Wanted, or Needed, to Know )

For Post 200 I was considering having a comment party, wherein everyone picks one of the characters I write about and spams the comments with silly drabbles about them. You spam, I spam, we all spam to cheer ourselves up. Alternatively, I could just post fic. XD

So I swore to myself there would be no more Alexander fic until I had finished the AU prompts everyone gave me. But then I thought, well, I have just finished my dissertation and I did find several references to Alexander in Medieval chronicles as the Antichrist. So really, my whole evil!Alexander idea has been completely vindicated.

So then, yeah, this was born in the space of an hour.

Title: And Death Shall Have No Dominion
Rating: R
Pairing: Alexander/Hephaistion, Roxanne/Alexander
Warnings: Character death, evil!Alexander and a complete bastardisation of ancient history. Shameless AU.
Notes: Prequel to For Thine Is The Kingdom
Summary: They find his body in a filthy alley, dirt smudged into his cheek and slime clinging to his hair...All Roxane can think is: 'At least it was quick'.

Dissertation woes.

Ok, you know you're in trouble when you say: "Right, that's it. I can't take it any more. Alexander and I are going into the back room to do battle, and only one of us is coming out alive."

And your mother says without so much as a twitch: "Ok, I'll bring you in a cup of tea in half an hour. Go and sort Big Al out."

Oh, family - I can't work out whether I'm pleased that you are so used to my Classics geekery that you just don't care, or if I'm scared that I've beaten you all into submission with my constant deluge of OMG ALEXANDER.

Cut for more Classics and Alexander geekery, now with added quotes! )

And so ends another day in Classics land. I have been your guide for the day. Please give all tips to Charon on your way out.

Have some original fic, because I'm having fun fleshing these boys out in my head. Second round of AU prompts to follow shortly, I swear. And quite probably a Classics geeking post because damn have I had a lot to geek about in the last week or so. :D

Title: This Is A Song We Have Sung Before
Fandom: Original (James/Daniel universe)
Pairing: Sam/Jay, pre-slash
Rating: PG-13 ish
Notes/Warnings: This was born of wanting to flesh out Sam's character a little more, and then Jay's as well. There is a lot of backstory to this fic, but it would not have been prudent to put it in. The backstory, from what I can work out, is demanding its own novel-length fic which I have no time to do at the moment but I'm sure everyone can figure out some of it. It is probably worth mentioning at this point though that there is more than a little hint at one of the characters suffering with post traumatic stress, albeit in a manner that suggests it is being dealt with.
Summary: Jay is on a conference and Sam can't breathe.

Ok, firstly: half of the AU prompts are nearly done. Expect some of them to be posted today. I apologise for the long radio silence - I had swine flu, which was clearly not as bad as the media has made it out to be because A) I am still alive and B) I could get out of bed and function like a (relatively) normal human being when I was caught in the grip of it.

Secondly: I apologise for this in advance. I normally don't weigh in on the subject of politics, because they're sticky and tricky and everyone has a viewpoint and it can get quite nasty quite quickly. But I can't keep my mouth shut on this so I'm sorry, and if anyone doesn't agree, they are most welcome to tell me so and we can debate it in a nice, polite manner. :)

(Oh and this? This is a rant.)

Ok, because I'm bored I'm throwing the metaphorical gauntlet down to anyone who is interested:

Give me a prompt - any prompt - about a character or pairing that you know I write, and in return I'll give you a drabble. The catch? It has to be an AU prompt of some kind. Same characters, brand new universe, and the twist can be anything (e.g. genderswap, a choice never made etc.).

In other news, I've updated the drabble request post, and if any of you want another normal drabble instead, feel free to head there and ask. I'm going to keep it open because it keeps me writing even during slumps.

Hope everyone's summers are going ok. :)

Ok, back from Turkey now so business shall resume as normal. As usual, apologies that I replied to no one before I left - my dissertation tutor had a moment of panicked flailing and insisted a completed draft be handed to him before I left. Never mind the fact it's due in, in September. *Grumble*

Expect picspam to follow shortly. Probably with much Alexanderness. And Troy. And Troy and Alexanderness. And maybe some Roman stuff.

Fic updates: Expect before too long more Underworld!verse, James/Daniel, some Sinn/Mars and apocalyptic!Alexander, because good grief the Soul Sib loves to torture me with great ideas when he knows I'm nowhere near a computer.

Hi people, just a quick update.

Firstly: apologies to those of you I haven't responded to yet on the drabble request post; I will get around to it. Anyone else who wants to request a drabble from me, go there and have some fun thinking of insane things for me to do. :)

Secondly: the next month is absolutely freakishly busy for me between uni things and travelling (Turkey, omg!). I will try to post fic (another James/Daniel piece is nearly done), but I can't make any promises when that will be. So, if I go MIA, don't reply to anyone and don't get around to posting fic, then I apologise in advance.

Hope everyone's recovering from exam/work stress now and enjoying their holidays!

Since I requested a drabble from the wonderful [info]kawaii_tenshi27, I had to participate in this.

The first five people who comment in this post get to request a drabble length fic (i.e. about 100 words) of any pairing/character of their choosing from me. In return, they have to post this in their journal.

If possible, I'd like anyone who asks to include a prompt - otherwise who knows what my brain will do? XD

And I know I'm useless at doing fic requests and actually getting them done, but 100 words isn't much. I will do this, I will.

Edit: Prompts done! [info]cynikal_lemon asked for Achilles and Alexander fighting in the afterlife, [info]graveofdreams asked for Sinn and Mars, [info]macabreromansu asked for Kitz and Val, [info]cobainkinney asked for anything to do with Sinn and Mars, [info]mop_cat asked for Remus, Sirius and a bit of Shakespeare, [info]citrine_shadow asked for Sinn, Mars and unusual tan lines, [info]kawaii_tenshi27 asked for Kitz, Val and the motorbike, [info]dark_kana asked for Sinn and Mars - what is and what should never be and [info]zondrais asked for Sinn and Mars (Mars is crossdressing).

Anyone else wants to prompt me, feel free to do so. I'm on a roll here! And I won't make you repost the meme on your lj. ;)

Tomorrow is Blog Like It Isn't You Day, I am totally doing this. I'll leave you to guess who the blogger is. Responses to comments will be by said mystery blogger, so watch what you say! ;)

In other news:

Title: Love is Like a Victory March
Fandom: Original (Future Road to Moonstone Universe)
Pairing: Hadriel/Michael
Rating: PG-ish
Notes: Another 'not really sure where it came from' fic. Watch out for the backwards timeline
Summary: The world is a safe place, a better one. It can be seen spread out below them, from the sixty fifth floor of the Justice Building. (The name is ironic; it is meant to be. Hadriel picked it and Michael could not be bothered to argue with him.) Two ex-government agents have had enough. Taking over the world ensues.

I have to go into uni tomorrow, just when I thought I'd escaped for the week. *Le sigh*

I've been asked to do meet and greet with some potential grad students, who are thinking of signing up for the MA. Not really sure what I'm meant to be saying to them, apart from giving them the tour and trying to persuade them to take the Alexander courses answering questions on courses. Oh well.

One of them's come all the way from the US, so I've just been informed; really I should stop whining - at least I only have to come half hour by train.

In the meantime, some Classics links for those who are interested:

Perseus Digital Library - free online Classics texts

A Radio Dramatisation of the Life of Alexander - the early life, anyway

Early English Books Online - requires an institution login name

Ancient Greece in Fiction - a comprehensive list of novels concerning Ancient Greece

I leave you now, in the land of Classics for the day. :D

Here ends the geekery.

Where did this fascination with bruises come from? No one knows.

Title: A Life Told In Bruises
Fandom: Original (Road to Moonstone)
Characters: Thorn, Rhyses
Rating: PG
Notes: Sort of follows on from Purples Skies and The Rule of Bonds
Summary: Five bruises, five moments, five starts.

You know when you have one of those 'LOL WTF?' moments? Yeah.

I've just heard Taylor Swift's Love Story for the first time (I'm shamefully behind the times, as usual) and the first thing that hit me is that it's an anthem for Thorn/Rhyses. Having discovered me in a small corner of the room, rocking back and forth and denying this frantically, the wonderful Kat just shrugged.

Her response? 'Well duh, you've managed to create your first platonic romance. I told you this from the start.'

I deny this completely. It is liiiiies.

In other news:

Now they came beside the shelters and ships of men at arms
and they found Achilles delighting his heart in a lyre, clear sounding,
splendid and carefully wrought, with a bridge of silver upon it,
which he won out of the spoils when he ruined Eetion's city.
With this he was pleasuring his heart, and singing of men's fame,
As Patroclus was sitting over against him, in silence.'

- Homer, Iliad 9.182-193 (Trans. Carey)

Isn't this the most gorgeous translation ever? Or is it just me...

Thanks for the wonderful support, advice and opinions you've all given me over the past week or so. I'm pleased to say officially, as of ten minutes ago, all counts of plagiarism have been resolved, so good news there.

However, that is not to say it might not happen again (one individual in particular seemed remarkably unrepentant), so I am implementing the policy I have discussed in this entry.

As of now, this journal is officially 'partly-friends only'. Original fic (minus the first chapter/fic of each universe) is going under wraps. So, anyone not yet on the friends list, don't panic just comment or add me as a friend and I'll get right on the problem. I'm not scary and I don't bite. :)
